Google has recently introduced a Gemini-powered AI image generation tool in Google Docs, enabling users to create visuals for their documents.
The new feature aims to streamline the creation of custom graphics, similar to Microsoft’s AI-generated art functionality in Office products.
Users can find the new feature under “Insert > Image > Help me create an image.” This opens a “Create an image” sidebar where users can describe the visual they want to create. The tool also allows users to select an art style, with options including “Photography” and “Sketch,” and to adjust the aspect ratio to square, horizontal, or vertical formats. Additionally, full-width cover images can be generated for pageless document layouts.
The tool uses Google’s Imagen 3 generator, and is available to Google Workspace users on paid plans that include add-ons such as Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium, or Google One AI Premium.
The image generator has begun rolling out from November 15 for users in rapid-release domains, with full availability expected within 15 days. For domains on a scheduled release plan, the rollout will commence starting on December 16.
